Trusting God | God Intersections

Are You a Follower or a Believer?

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

One recent early morning during my Quiet Time God asked me an interesting question.

I had quieted my mind (always a tough thing for me) and was thinking about recent God Intersections.  As I thought about one particular individual I thought “I wonder if that person is a Believer?”.  The Spirit of God quickly dropped a thought in my mind:

“I want you to stop asking that question!”

Quite honestly I was surprised by the thought.  But I’ve learned to quickly check the thoughts against my bible knowledge and then go with them.  My next thought was “I wonder what question I should  ask?”.  In the quietness of the moment I heard:

“Ask if they are a Follower of Jesus?”

I thought “that’s kind of a cool question” and went on with my Quiet Time.  The next God thought surprised me::

“You can be a Follower without being a Believer”.

Now THAT thought messed with my theology.  I have been trained to think you must be a Believer first and then you become a Follower.  As I pondered the conversation with God it became obvious.  Inviting someone to Follow Jesus does NOT require they believe He is the Son of God.  They just need to be willing to follow His teachings.  And if they follow long enough they are sure to become a Believer.

Here’s hoping you invite many to become Followers!

Hearing God’s Voice

Monday, August 27th, 2012

I was minding my own business nursing a particular injustice this weekend when the God of the Universe showed up and provided this thought “Will you let this situation in your marriage make you more like Jesus or more like the world?”.

And instantly a whole line of thinking appeared.  That’s the way it works for me with God.  I used to think I didn’t hear His voice much. I still don’t actually hear much in the still, quiet places with Him.   Then I learned something big.  Telling God when and how He should speak to us just does not work. When I finally stopped using that approach and let Him teach me I learned some fascinating things about hearing God: (more…)

Running Your Business with the Heart of God

Monday, February 28th, 2011

My last post discussed how consistently applying the Heart of God IN our business is the key to finding the blessings of God FOR our business.  As I continued pondering this subject, I had an interesting thought.

It is much easier to apply the Heart of God to our customers than to our suppliers and employees and even families. We naturally understand the importance of treating our customers with fairness, respect, kindness, honesty, generosity, supportiveness or however you define God’s heart.  Any experienced business owner will tell you how important it is to treat your customers “right”.

How does God break into your business world?

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

God in business.  These three words did not used to go together, at least not in my life.  I used to believe that it was my job to be successful in the business world and then figure out how to apply that success to one of God’s ministries (preferably by giving money).  Financial success first, God success second.  Using a car analogy, I wanted to drive the car called my life to the point I had accomplished a given amount of success and then I would consider letting God drive.

This Idea called Cooperative Capitalism

Monday, August 30th, 2010

For most of 2010 God and I have had a running dialogue regarding how to describe what Godintersections.com and Leadership Productivity Forum’s are actually all about. You all have heard me use phrases like:

  1. Finding your way in challenging times using God Intersections
  2. Learning to Trust God with our businesses
  3. Building God’s Economy businesses
  4. Growing success, finding significance.

All true but somehow a little too confining. Particularly when talking to marketplace folks who are not Christians. This year has been fascinating in terms of the dialogue and God Ideas my Intersections have created. So my Current Best Thinking is that we are all about:

  1. Helping marketplace people find their way in business by involving the living God
  2. Working with business leaders to learn, practice and replicate Cooperative Capitalism in our economy

It’s about Surrender Stupid!

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

No worries, I’m not talking about you, I’m talking about me. The question of the day is “How many more ship sinkings, oil well blow outs, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami’s, stock market meltdowns etc. will it take before I learn to surrender?”.

Surrender to what? Surrender the outcome of my life and business to God! Surrender to Trusting God with my life and business every month, every week, every day and every hour.

Communities of Hope

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Interesting times we live in.  My wife was laid off again this past month.  My business just experienced its first slow down.  The bills march on and God is still challenging me to trust Him.  Interesting!

Heh, the good news is it only took Glenda and me about 48 hours to work our way through the shock of another lay off.  The first 24 hours was tough, the second a little easier and now we are back to “seeing what God will do”.  And God continues to provide.

Do YOU need help?

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

That’s the question of the day.  Do YOU need help? If so when and from whom and for what kind of things?  As I’ve pondered lately this question seems to be at the heart of the man and God question.  Most folks I talk to believe in God.  But do you believe in a God that actually helps you?  Do you believe in a God that cares about you?  Do you believe in a God that actually shows up in your life?

Why is this Stewardship Thing so Hard???

Friday, March 5th, 2010

This has been an amazing week of God Intersections for me.  My normal “vital activity” every week is to meet with three God Intersections.  The purpose of those meetings is to simply hear where folks are at (everyone has a story), model what God is doing in my life and find out how I can help.  This week I’ve had over 15 intersections (a record) all around a fairly common theme.  That theme is “my business (or life) is NOT working very well”.

Becoming “A Light on the Hill”

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

As I pondered my learnings from 2009 I realized what a rich year it was. God imparted more things to me during 2009 than any previous time I can remember. Things like:

  1. Truth does not need to be defended – God can handle it. My job is to simply love people where they are
  2. God is the Owner, I am the steward of my life and business. Leave the results up to Him and simply do my part
  3. God, as the Owner, will guide my life if I will simply follow the God Intersections
  4. Move our businesses into God’s Economy
  5. Build a Community, it is the new foundation for significance.
